The Simple Beauty of Porch Swings

Nothing says quaint like a front porch swing. Except maybe rocking chairs. But today we’re talking about porch swings.

I have to say that our porch swing is one of my absolute favorite parts of our home. It’s a cozy place to sit and talk, curl up and read a book or cuddle my girls.

However, we’ve never really done much with it. We don’t have any pillows, and the rest of our porch is fairly sparse because it’s so windy where we live that things have to either be attached or very, very heavy to stay put. But these pictures make me want to remedy that because they all look so cozy!

Of course, if you don’t have a porch, you can always opt for a garden swing or glider instead. I think the key is to have a place where you can just sit and be. A place where you can simply sit and enjoy life and count your blessings.

Do you have a porch swing? If so, do you use it? If not, is it something you’ve thought about adding to your outdoor furniture?

We have two white rockers on our front porch. I have been searching for some cushions or pillows for the last few weeks. Need something super inexpensive that fits my budget! We also live where wind is a factor - so also need something that attaches. I think I may have to hit the fabric store and make something myself out of a bargain fabric! Wish me luck!

I have ALWAYS wanted a porch swing but I have never lived in a home that has a covered porch. Porch swings always remind me of cuddling w/ my grandparents on theirs and I would love to create some of those great memories w/ my little one! I think I am going to try to attach one UNDER our deck as a cozy retreat!

BTW, someone sent me a link to your blog and I love it!! My New Years resolution was “Simplify”. I don’t know that I’ve done a tremendous amount to accomplish that but I’ve taken baby steps by saying no more often (vs. constantly running around ‘doing’) and by being less of a perfectionist (having a baby will do that to you!). I hope to get more advice on the subject by popping over here now and again. I am currently working on decluttering and organizing for a yard sale w/ some friends next weekend!

I adore our porch swing. It’s pretty basic, but it serves its role nicely. We swing on it from March until November! (and the occasional warmish winter day in between)

Oh, I’m jealous! We lived out West for a couple of years and March was my favorite month back there. Now, it’s still very, very cold in March, although I do occasionally try to bundle up and sit on the porch anyway on a nice snow day!

I really love porches and swings too. The one on the picture is beautiful. I would like to know about the size of both the porch and the siwng.
Thanks!!!

In our last home, we hung our porch swing in the backyard under a big tree. I loved it. Good spot for reading. We moved our porch swing with us to our current home and have a porch to put it on. It’s a great spot for reading to the kids and for my husband and I to have some quiet time together while the kiddos are in bed. I LOVE porches. Looking for some pillows to “cozy it up!” Great pictures.
