Is that not the cutest little house?

I’ll admit that I’ve been dreading this post ever since I typed out the words “navy blue” on my last one. I was afraid that all I was going to find were traditional, masculine rooms, and I couldn’t have been more wrong!

I absolutely love this combination of colors. I never would have thought green and blue could be paired together so beautifully, but I think it adds such a warm, homey feeling to this room!

And if I was worried about navy blue being a masculine color, this bedroom defies that stereotype. It’s beautifully feminine and delicate — and also light and airy — adjectives I would never have associated with navy blue before I started searching for pictures!

I think this is my favorite use of navy blue. Not necessarily this room in particular, but the warm, cozy, inviting feeling that it adds. It makes you want to sit down with some friends over coffee and dessert or curl up with your family to watch a movie!

This kitchen embodies that same feeling (and I love the accent of the sunflowers on the island and the peaches on the window!). It manages to strike a perfect balance between traditional and modern.

Of course navy blue will always be associated with nautical themes as well.

But I’ve realized that it’s really such a versatile color, for indoors or outdoors!

And of course we need our token picture of navy blue combined with silver and white just to prove my theory that any color can be chic and modern in this combination!

Do you have navy blue around your home? Did any of the pictures above challenge your previous thoughts about the color?

I haven’t decided what color we’ll talk about next week yet, and I want to hear from you! What color would you like to see featured in the Splashes of Color series?

Blue, green and yellows are the colors of my home. I think of it as beach cottage cozy feel. My bedroom is dark blue and I have green accents. My comforter and curtains are green. The colors go great together. I love the picture of the blue kitchen btw.
Here’s a color for you. What can you do with coral? I think of exotic when I hear coral. Have a great week!

Blue has always been one of my favourite colours. After months of deliberation over which colours to introduce into our neutral lounge room, I finally decided to go with blue again. I steered away from blue initially as I didn’t want to overdo the use of this colour, yet somehow it has found its way into yet another part of our house. I think that you need to choose colours in your home that reflect you and your personality. Also, I feel that things subtly ‘flow’ through our house now rather than having separate coloured rooms.

We have Navy Blue sofas that we brought when we were living in an apartment where we could not paint the walls. I do not mind the color as long as it does not over power the room.

I use navy blue in our bedroom…and it was an attempt to have the bedroom be more masculine. But I love it!!

I love the picture of the navy blue kitchen cabinets…very cool!

Only a few of these pictures show true navy blue. Navy is quite dark (like the kitchen cabinet photo)

You know, I was really surprised by this post. I thought masculine and traditional. Almost makes me want to paint a room navy blue…almost.

Splash of color is a fun series, and I have a request for a featured color. We have a pale blue room (not a pretty pale blue that we chose but one that feels like a little boy’s room). We moved at the beginning of July and it is our only unfinished room - we are using it as an office and guest room. We have put in wood furniture (a medium brown tone - the desk) and black furniture (file cabinet, book shelves, and whicker day bed) but I haven’t yet bought bedding because I can’t decide on an accent color for the walls. We have a bunch of other priorities that preclude us from repainting it at this time (it would be next summer at the earliest). I’ve thought about American red, or country French, or going super blue, or adding some green, etc etc!
I would love it if you could do this color!
