Okay, so maybe those flowers are more purple than lavender, but can they join the party anyway?

(And yes, that is our kitchen table, and yes, it is a picnic table. I may not have mentioned it here before – but I may have mentioned it a time or two or three on other blogs. I love our kitchen table! It is simple, functional, kind of funky, and inexpensive!)

Lavender is a soft, romantic color that adds touches of elegance and femininity to any room.

It’s often used in old world-style homes such as the one above.

And to be honest, I started to wonder why I’d chosen lavender for this week’s splash of color since it’s not a color we really use in our home or one that I’d think of as modern, which is really our style.

And then I realized that our guest bath is actually a shade of lavender! Unfortunately, it’s such a light shade that it doesn’t really show up very well in the pictures,  but nonetheless, I assure you it can also be used in modern homes as well as traditional ones, and it’s gorgeous when combined with white, grey and metal accents with straight, modern lines.

See?

Do you have any lavender rooms or accents in your home? If so, we’d love to see pictures! Post on your blog or upload to Flickr and leave a comment with the link!

Next week, we’ll be talking about sunflower yellow! Get those pictures ready!

I’m not big on lavender, but when I read your post it reminded me that my family roon ceiling is lavender. Years ago we had wood judge’s paneling and I painted the top part of the walls dark orange and the ceiling a pale lavender. I think it was back when I watched a lot of “Trading Spaces” and I had a very modern rug with purple and orange in it that was my supposed “inspriration”. I always meant to repeat the lavender in the back of the built-in bookcases, but our paneling & built-ins were eventually painted white and the walls a nice neutral shade called Woodrow Wilson Putty. My husband didn’t want to paint the ceiling, so it is still lavender.

It’s so funny that I see this today, because I am actually getting ready to paint my laundry room LAVENDER! I have dark brown cabinets and am really looking forward to having a laundry room makeover! I am in there alot, unfortunately, so I thought I might as well make it pretty and girly! ;)

Lavender is my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE color! (Can you tell it’s my favorite?) I have never seen it used so beautifully in home decor. Thanks for the inspiration!

I’m new to your blog - but I’m adoring it. And, the picnic table…. I’m totally infatuated with it. I think this may be the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while.
