I’ve been dying to share this with you for weeks now, but I promised my husband I would wait until he was done. We’ve lived in our house for two years now, but our backyard has been sorely neglected as we’ve focused on finishing the inside.
This year, we knew we wanted to be able to use our backyard before fall, which is by far our favorite season. However, we wanted to do it without breaking the bank, and so we came up with a plan.
Our pea gravel patio cost less than $100 in materials (although it was admittedly a hefty investment of time considering it took over 40 wheelbarrows full of dirt to level the area). The furniture, which my amazing husband designed and built himself, cost us under $200. Not bad for solid wood furniture heavy enough to withstand the high winds we get across our backyard!
Really, I am in awe of his talent, and I love the way it turned out. It was exactly what I wanted, and it’s very special to use knowing how much time and effort he’s put into it for us.
I’ve shared other projects of his before, but I think this by far beats them all!

WOW!!! That is so absolutely gorgeous and the special and personal aspect of it just takes it to a completely different level. AMAZING!
Boo! I can’t access your picture. It’s just a big, blank square
Absolutely beautiful!! Your husband does incredible work!!! Thanks for sharing.
Very nice! I love the pea gravel patio and your husband did a great job on the furniture. You will enjoy that space.
Mandi, that is GORGEOUS! I love the furniture; it’s totally my style. Did he do the chaise lounge in the background, too?
And you have a great view, too!
What great furniture! And I would like to add, what a beautiful place to live! Totally jealous here, from Pam who lives in a crowded San Diego nighborhood!
Thanks, Pam – there’s not a day that goes by that I’m not thankful for it!
Thanks, Tsh! He did do the chaise as well. We had/have plans for a second one, but it’s took so long that we decided we better just stick with one for now and move on to other projects!
Thanks so much, everyone!
Wow…I love it! I have been looking for a way to connect the steps from my back deck to the basement entrance, and this just might work. I’m going to share your picture with my handyman and see what he thinks.
